Appointment of Ann Treadaway as Director of Veteran and Military Programs and Services

September 1, 2015

Members of the Rutgers University Community:

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Ann Treadaway as Director of Veteran and Military Programs and Services, effective October 1, 2015. As Director, Ann will serve as the principal advocate for student veterans at Rutgers' three locations; ensure the quality of policies, programs, activities, and services for student veterans; and serve as the university's liaison with outside agencies and offices whose work affects the lives of these students.

Ms. Treadaway is joining us following several years as Director of Veterans Support Services at the College of Staten Island, where she developed new innovative programming and enhanced support services to assist student veterans in their transition to the campus environment. One of her signature programs was the Military Cultural Competence Training which educated faculty and staff on the unique experiences of student veterans. Ms. Treadaway has worked closely with local and nationally elected officials, community organizations and the media to advocate for veterans and their families. She has also presented on a number of occasions at regional and national conferences on veteran related topics, highlighting the diversity of veteran communities, LGBTQ veterans, and women veterans.

Ann served as a Specialist in the 130th Engineer Brigade of the United States Army from April 2001 to June 2006, during which she was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and 2005. After being honorably discharged, Ann graduated magna cum laude from Purchase College - State University of New York with her Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science in 2008. She continued her education at the City University of New York - College of Staten Island where she earned her Masters of Arts in history in 2012.

I look forward to working with Ann as we continue to advance the Office of Veterans and Military Programs and Services as a center of excellence for veteran and military students. I would like to thank the members of the search committee, led by Michael Beals, Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education at the School of Arts and Sciences, for its hard work and dedication.

Please join me in welcoming Ann Treadaway to Rutgers University.
